“For other services, we typically see oversized openings formed up by the concrete form workers, and then
the trades run services and are responsible for fire-sealing the openings. This is how it has been for years.
In today’s world, with innovation and system development, there is an easier way: the Trafalgar Orange
SuperSTOPPER® systems.“

The SuperSTOPPER® is a patented product and application developed by myself for Trafalgar Fire, one of the companies I own.
It is a rectangular-shaped box, with a bottom flange complete with fixing holes. It is fixed to timber formwork in a predetermined position where the services need to run.
It has reinforcement along the longer sides to help the product key into the concrete better once poured, and to give the box some strength during the concrete pour.
There is a lid too. Can you work out what it is for?
The lid prevents the inside of the box from being filled with concrete during the concrete pour.
Inside is a clear opening nominally 120mm wide, for services to run up and through the SuperSTOPPER® tothe next level of the building.
There are two important components that stop fire and smoke, reduce sound transmission and prevent air leakage to support energy conservation.
The first is some intumescent materials fixed internally around all four sides of the inner perimeter of the box so they are not displaced when services are pulled through the box.
So, where are they being used and why?
The first and most obvious reason these systems are used is to make an opening in the concrete floor slab for the services without needing to have the concrete form.
