Seismic Testing of Fire Stopping Products

Timber floors have undergone a modern renaissance in the construction industry in a new form of thick cross-lamiated timber beams called CLT or mass timber. These sustainably sourced materials are being used in the Australian building industry due to their environmental sustainability, acoustic and fire-resistant properties. This page lists the tested passive fire penetration systems currently available to maintain the fire resistance level (FRL) of service penetrations through these timber floor systems.
We have a wide range of resources available for every product and system to ensure that you’re choosing the right fire stopping solution for your needs.
FRL Tables, installation instructions, benefits, applications, and more are all available in our comprehensive manuals, for all systems and products.
We can currently offer cavity barrier solutions for use at the slab edge with timber constructions as shown below, to comply with C1.13 of the NCC. We also have a range of fire stopping solutions for service penetrations through timber floors, this currently only applies to certain brands of CLT construction, however there is always more testing being done at Trafalgar– contact the technical team for assistance with fire engineering and site specific fire testing requirements ([email protected]).

The most basic way to understand passive fire protection is that we install on-site in the same manner that a successfully fire-tested SYSTEM was installed.
It was around 30 years ago when I first heard the word “intumescent”. Little did I know that day would change my working life. It
Passive fire compartments, fire containment barriers and separate fire cells (or zones) are well known in the industry. For those who don’t know, the principles
