Description
Steel beams and purlins that penetrate through a fire rated barrier will cause issues associated with the FRL of the wall, which could lead to failure of the fire compartmentalization in the building. Just like any service penetration through different fire barriers, it is also common to see steel beams and purlins penetrating through fire-rated barriers. These steel beams and purlin penetrations must also be treated to ensure compliance with the NCC.
To address any heat transfer through the penetration during a fire (insulation performance) the steel can be encased with Trafalgar Corex board for a small distance on either side of the fire barrier.
