Trafalgar Corex for steel beam and purlin penetrations is designed to maintain the Fire Resistance Level (FRL) of fire-rated walls and floors where structural steel elements pass through.
Unprotected steel penetrations can compromise fire compartmentation by allowing heat transfer between compartments, increasing the risk of system failure during a fire.
Why Steel Penetrations Need Fire Protection
When steel beams or purlins penetrate a fire-rated barrier:
- Heat transfers rapidly through the steel
- The insulation (I) rating of the FRL can be reduced
- Fire-rated walls or floors may fail prematurely
